The Karachi Falcon by Elisa Caldana consists of a series of works inspired by the laggar falcon, a species found in Pakistan, India, and Myanmar that is gradually disappearing in the wild. Following a residency in Karachi (Pakistan), the artist reflects on the processes set in motion when a falcon is forced into captivity, turning it into a metaphor for examining power dynamics as well as the effects of pollution.

The textiles, featuring enlarged abstract patterns, are inspired by the feathers of falcons and narrate the relationship that develops between the falcon and the falconer—the person who cares for it before releasing it. These works originated from the artist’s drawings, later developed into recycled yarns at the textile laboratory of the TextielMuseum in Tilburg, the Netherlands.

The bronze sculpture, composed of two parts, was created at the Fonderia Battaglia in Milan. In it, the artist visualizes an absence: she depicts hands holding a bird of prey at the very moment just before its release back into the wild.
